50th Anniversary Golden Gala - 18th July 2026

On Saturday, 18 July, Hamersley Netball Club celebrated its 50th Anniversary Golden Gala under the theme "50 Years Strong - Created by Generations" at Crown’s Astral Ballroom.

The evening brought together past and present players, coaches, volunteers, Life Members, families and supporters in a heartfelt celebration of the people who have shaped the club over five remarkable decades.

Master of Ceremonies Sue Gaudion AM guided guests through a very special evening that focused on celebrating and recognising the people, the friendships, and the community that have created the legacy we know today as the Hamersley Way.

A moving anniversary video reflected on the club's journey from its humble beginnings at Glendale Primary School to becoming one of Western Australia's leading suburban netball clubs. Throughout the evening, guests were reminded that Hamersley's greatest success has never been measured by premierships alone, but by the generations of volunteers whose dedication and commitment always extended far beyond the court.

One of the true highlights of the night was the recognition given to the club's Life Members, Autoparts Toyota Legends, and the Coaching Hall of Fame inductees. Their collective contribution represents hundreds of years of service and thousands of games, leaving a legacy that continues to inspire future generations. The evening also respectfully acknowledged valued members who are no longer with us, the vale honouring the lasting impact and legacy they made during their time with Hamersley.

Guests enjoyed the ‘Golden Moments panel’, where representatives from different eras of the club: Janine Birkett, Tracey Swami and Michelle Cox, shared their memories, humorous stories and reflections on how Hamersley has evolved while remaining true to its values we expect of the club today. The interactive ‘HNC Rewind’ quiz, featuring Beth Harvey, Janine Friday, Aimee Armstrong and Maddie Hunter, brought plenty of laughter and, as expected, some very competitive spirit to the room!

One of the evening's most moving moments came during the ‘From the Heart’ segment, as founding Life Member Lynni Pemberton reflected on almost five decades of service, sharing stories of leadership, family, and the culture that continues to define Hamersley. Sue Gaudion then read the Athlete's Pledge, written by Lynni, before inviting the club's current athletes to stand in recognition that they are now the custodians of Hamersley's future and the next chapter of its story.

The evening concluded with a club-wide toast led by Club Captain Janine Friday, celebrating 50 extraordinary years of Hamersley Netball Club. As glasses were raised and the room united in one final, resounding "HAMERSLEY!", the moment perfectly captured what has always made the club so special- a club built by generations. With everyone on their feet, the celebrations continued as the dance floor filled and guests danced the night away, enjoying music that spanned the decades and provided the perfect ending to a truly memorable evening.

Events of this scale are only possible through months of planning and the dedication of many volunteers. Sincere thanks go to the incredibly talented Aimee Armstrong and Adrienne Benger for leading the Golden Gala celebrations, together with their committee: Katie Mitch, Tracey Swami, Michelle Cox, Karla Hart, Carly Bright, Tegan Gosling, and Kristy Young. Their commitment ensured a fitting celebration of Hamersley Netball Club's remarkable 50-year journey. The evening exceeded all expectations, and it was certainly a night to remember!
